PURPOSE:

Playing some of their best hockey of the season in late January and early February, the AAA Midget Royals ended the regular season in 4 th place in the South division of the AMHL and now prepare for the playoffs. The Royals will meet the Calgary Flames in the best of three series. Games are scheduled as below.
Thursday Feb 18 - 6:45 PM at Father Bauer Arena
Friday Feb 19 - 8:30 PM at Stu Peppard Arena
Saturday Feb 20 - 6:00 PM at Stu Peppard Arena (If necessary)
The Players, Parents and Staff of the Major Midget "AAA" Hockey Club would like to invite all Royals teams, players, staff, parents and executives to come out and support the team.

TOUGH LOSS

The Royals lost a close 3 - 2 game against the Lethbridge Huricanes Sunday despite a solid team effort. Goal scorers for the Royals were Reid Simmonds and Brad Buckingham who scored a short handed goal with 2:23 remaining in the third period. Despite a fluery of activity around the Lethbridge net in the last minute with a power play the Royals were unable to tally the tieing goal. The Royals will now take a few days off and gear up for the Macs Tournament

Special team play was key in the Royals earning a 3 - 3 tie with the Calgary Buffalloes Friday night at Stu Peppard. Two power play goals, one by Brett Dallen and another by Kyle Pollard with 1:47 remaining in the third period and perfect penalty killing, 6 for 6, allowed the Royals to come away with a point. The other goal was scored by Trent Geiger. In net, and making 26 saves was James D'Andrea, who was called upon to stop a penalty shot with 5:45 remaining in the second period. Next game for the Royals will be this Sunday when they travel to Lethbridge to visit the Huricanes.

Special teams were a factor in the Royals 3 - 3 tie against the St. Albert Raiders Saturday night. Two power play goals early in the third period gave the Royals a 3 - 2 lead which held up until 17:06 of the third period when St. Albert tied the game on a power play of their own. The game was a defensive battle with St. Albert outshoting the Royals 20 - 18. Goal scorers for the Royals were Chris Hale, Evan Jarock and Logan Maddin. In the net for the Royals was Austin Smith.
Next action for the Royals will be Friday night Dec 18 when the Calgary Buffaloes will visit Stu Peppard for a 8:00 PM start. The AAA Midget Royals would like to invite all fans and fellow Royals players to come out and support the time Friday night which will be their last home game prior to this years annual Macs Midget Hockey Tournament.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST

The Royals showed an offensive outburst as they directed 39 shots at the Maple Leafs goaltender Friday night and posted a 6 - 1 victory over the Leafs. Leading the way for the Royals was Chris Hale and Even Jarock who had two goals each. Single goals went to Brett Dallen and Trent Geiger. In net for the victory was James D'Andrea who faced 20 shots. Next action for the Royals will be Saturday night when the visitors will be the St. Albert Raiders. Game time is 7:30 PM at Stu Peppard Arena
HOME LOSS

Three goals within four minutes in the second period by the Sherwood Park Kings was all that was needed to defeat the Royals Saturday night be a score of 5 - 3. The loss leaves the Royals with a record of 6 - 8 - 4. Goal scorers for the Royals were Kennan Martens with his first of the year, Reid Simmonds and Chris Hale who was inserted into the line up as an AP.
Next action for the Royals will be Friday Dec 11 when the Edmonton Maple Leafs will visit Stu Peppard for an 8:00 PM game and Saturday Dec 12 when the St. Albert Raiders will visit Stu Peppard for a 7:30 PM game

On Nov 28 and 29, the Royals travelled north to play the Edmonton Maple Leafs and the Lloydminster Bobcats but only came home with a tie against the Maple Leafs. Solid goaltending by Tyler Briggs in the Lloydminister net stifled the Royals many times as Lloydminster beat the Royals 2-0, with an empty net goal while the Royals had a power play in the last minute of play. Against the Leafs, Brett Dallen scored on the power play with an extra attacker with 24 seconds left in the third period to get the tie 2-2

With the power play, and the goaltender on the bench for an extra attacker, the Royals were able to score a power play goal with 24 seconds remaining to earn a 2 - 2 with the Edmonton Maple Leafs Saturday night. Scoring the goal was Brett Dallen. Scoring the other goal earlier in the game on the power play as well was Connor Collett. In goal for the Royals was James D'Anrea who faced 26 shots.
