CALGARY ROYALS COACH MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Since 1996; the Calgary Royals and Calgary Hockey Development/National Sport Academy, under the direction of Roger Wolfe and Mark Maloney, have been pioneering a very successful mentorship program. Mark has been the primary coach mentor for the past 8 years. As a result of progressive and forward thinking, the Royals have achieved tremendous success earning them the reputation of “The Association of Champions”. The focus of the mentorship program is to provide avenues for the coaches and administrators to access new resources, information, and ideas. The goal was to assist in the development of excellent coaches and in turn create a great experience for all young players.
Mentorship takes on many different forms.
• Practice and game observation and execution
• Team building and group dynamics
• Sport Psychology
• Goal tending support program
• Coach updates and email reports
• National Coaching Certification Program (Coach, Development I, Safety and Speak Out)
• Coach Networking
• Coach Shadow Program
• Annual Planning and Implementation Strategy
• Royals Coach Manual
• Drill and Practice Plan Database
Over the past 10 years, numerous outstanding coaches have contributed to the Royals success. Many have moved on to Western Hockey League, Jr. A Leagues, Canadian University, NCAA, and Hockey Alberta High Performance Programs.
IN THE FUTURE, WE HOPE TO CONTINUE PROVIDING THE BEST POSSIBLE TRAINING FOR OUR COACHES AND YOUNG PLAYERS.
